Here are a few of the questions that came to me as I read the text. Answer one or several.
Are Tralala's actions dictated by her environment? How much agency does she have over her life?
How much free will does anybody have? Does free will exist within parameters? Do those parameters differ based on external factors (time, place, class, race, gender, age, etc.)?
Are certain people who are more prone to Tralala's fate? Why do some people that grow up in circumstances like Tralala "get out" while others get sucked in deeper?
Can a human become pure animal? What makes that transition happen?
How and why does a conscience become hardened over time?

Tralala's actions are dictated by her environment because reading the last few pages of Tralala, there is a connection between the continuation of the story and Tralala actions of going into different bars, hooking up with guys and eventually being kicked out. She has no control in here life. She does what she pleases.
ReplyDeleteAnyone and everyone has free will. No matter what gender or ethicity it all depends on the person and their ability to control themselves in a addiction that they have.
I think people have free will no matter their circumstance. But i also feel that Tralala's actions were determined by her environment. She probably felt that she had nothing better to do besides be a prostitute. Certain people are prone to their fate, but sometimes when people try to become a better person they give up because every time they try to become better they fail. So people could become pure animal because they become hardened by their experience. But then again we do not really know her story so we dont know whether or not she did try to be something better in her past but things did not work out.
ReplyDeleteAre Tralala's actions dictated by her environment? How much agency does she have over her life?
ReplyDeletetralala actions are influenced by her environment; however it the environment is not the one that causes her to make her own decisions. nor does it cause her to act the spiteful and trashy way that she does. society does influence a person but thats where free will comes into the picture. everyone has free will to chose between right and wrong. society or majority of people might sway to the wrong side, but at the end of the day its your choice to decide which direction you want to go. therefore tralala had control over her devastating choice but choice to live the life of a stealing prostitute. the amount of control that she has over her life is enough to make a 180 degree turn and change the way she is as a person.
Are certain people who are more prone to Tralala's fate? Why do some people that grow up in circumstances like Tralala "get out" while others get sucked in deeper?
ReplyDeleteyes some people who have a certain upbringing are somewhat prone to that fate, or is that the odds for them becoming like tralala is more likely than usual people. we werent told tralala background or upbringing but it mist have effected her actions and made her become what she is. the BROKEN HOME term siginifies people who are most likely to grow up living the mischivious life like tralala, however there are those who manage to escape this terrible fate or odd that they have against them because a strong desire to escape. it all stems back to free will. some people get sucked in bec they are not strong enough to stand up against peer pressure, society, or the way they were brought up. but the strong one that have a will to change and escape a destorying destiny will prevail bec of their strong free will.
Are Tralala's actions dictated by her environment? How much agency does she have over her life?
ReplyDeleteTralala's actions were dictated by her environment. Even though a person has a free will to do whatever he/she wants, the environment is a big factor. It can cause you to do many things you would otherwise not do. If she was not in such a situation. If she was actually living at home with her parents, she would not have turned out like this and she would not have to rely on such methods for money.
Are Tralala's actions dictated by her environment? How much agency does she have over her life?
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe so. Even though we don't know about her parents and backgrounds, I feel that Tralala's actions were influenced a lot by it. Missing parents, mistrustful friends, all that adds up to what we see in the end. As time goes, Tralala keeps loosing her positions, and falls into something that has no way back; she looses control over her own life
As much as I would like to say that an individual has total and utter control over their lifestyles, I don't think this theory is 100% proof. What ever you want to call it , whether fate, bad luck, karma, destiny, some people find themselves being pulled into the same lifestyle over and over again even when they want to get out of it. I am not completely convinced with my own explanation. All I can say is that maybe there is an element which we are not recognizing that also plays a role in peoples decision making.
ReplyDeleteWhen people are exposed to a certain environment and that becomes all they know, I believe that some part of free will is taken away. They become a part of the cycle and basically need it in order to exist or they feel meaningless. I believe that Tralala received gratification from her situation. Something might have happened in her past to make her feel this way. The fact that her conscious seemed to be numb happens over time. If abuse and violence is all that you know and all that you are exposed to, the mind becomes numb to it
ReplyDeleteCan a human become pure animal? What makes that transition happen?
ReplyDeleteHow and why does a conscience become hardened over time?
A human can become a pure animal after they have suffered enough pain and anguish. When a person goes through a hard time, they deal with certain emotions. If these emotions are pushed enough towards anger, the person can become unstable. When you analyze sadists and rapists, they weren't born that way, they were turned into those things. Some people can't figure out a way to get away from their problems, so they start looking for alternate ways out. After a certain time, these actions become irrlevant to the person in terms of right and wrong, as long as they don't see it as irrational, they will keep on persisting.
How much free will does anybody have? Does free will exist within parameters? Do those parameters differ based on external factors (time, place, class, race, gender, age, etc.)?
ReplyDeleteI believe there is such thing as free will but to a certain extent. Every person has a limit based on what they are trying to accomplish. Everyone has a say in things when it comes to government, but there are certain things that aren't tollerated. The same things pertains to Tralala, she has free will to go anywhere she pleases. but her actions in those places have limits. The only parameter that trully contributes to free will is moral conduct. If someone is acting idiotic or is trying to start a confrontation with someone, it is allowed but never tollerated. The same thing goes for people trying to act crazy in a bar, people don't go there to cause problems, they look to have a good time and in Tralala's case, her desire was to cause problems.
Are certain people who are more prone to Tralala's fate? Why do some people that grow up in circumstances like Tralala "get out" while others get sucked in deeper?
ReplyDeleteThe only people who are more prone to Tralala's fate are people who don't care about their lives. Those people are the ones that drop out high school then become drug dealers and criminals. Some people just don't care about their lives because they think they know how to "beat the system" or in terms of girls like Tralala, they know how to get their way. Some people become con artists to lure people to give them money, and the only thing that accomplishes is giving that person a bad name and a criminal record. Some people can escape this path by getting wake up a call, such as prison time, joining a religious group, or just going to therapy. Many people find a way to live a good life, the only thing that is stopping them for achieving it, is intimidation.
Are Tralala's actions dictated by her environment? How much agency does she have over her life?
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to Tralala and actions, she has no control at all for herself. The environment does play a role in terms of how Tralala will act but i believe it is just years of this kind of behavior. She doesn't have anyone looking after her, she is always prowling the streets on her own without anyone's guidance. She is always looking for attention, no matter where she is at for the time being. Tralala will remain the same for the rest of her life unless someone decides to physically help her.
I think tralala's actions were partially dictated by her environment. I think she felt she was doing what she had to in order to survive. However i think at some point she lost control and was in way over her head. Although I believe her actions were partially dictated by her environment I also think she would have been similar in another environment. She was always nasty to people, jealous of woman and took things farther than they needed to. For example, when the guy went to her for his wallet back because he just wanted to go home, she didnt have to hurt him the way she did.
ReplyDeleteI think people always have free will but I feel like they lose sight of that in certain situations. I think when there in a bad situation they feel trapped and helpless and maybe for their own self-consious they tell themselves they dont really have free will and they might have to do something they know is wrong. Free will does sometimes have parameters but those parameters come from individuals themselves.
ReplyDeleteI think certain people are more prone to Tralala's fate however anybody can end up with her fate. people are more prone to her fate when they are brought up in a bad environment and are not determined to get out of it. However even someone in a great environment can end up with her fate by making bad decisions in life. I think people can make it out of a bad environment as long as they are determined because its going to be hard and challanging. However sometimes people get sucked in because they dont have hope and dont think theres a possibility of getting out so they dont even try.
People who are prone to Tralala's fate are set by a combination factors such as his or her's surroundings and their perception of those surroundings. People that grew up in an abusive home or neglected at a young child are most likely to follow the path Tralala takes. The reason some people are able to escape this kind of "fate" mostly likely have some sense of a support system such as a close friend to confide with or a family member that they trust. As we can see in Tralala's case she in fact had no close friends or any kind of support system in which she can rely and fall back on. This support system will allow a person to have a better chance at having a positive outlook on life and give them the opportunity to change their situation for the better. People without a support system such as Tralala will most likely fall deeper in the path of self destructive because they are not introduced into another way of life. People left in this situation will most likely see no way out or see this way life as the only way to live.
ReplyDeleteTralala’s actions came to be, because of her own desire. The mentality of instant gratification caused her to get into her profession, ignoring hard work to reap all the benefits of it. Free will exists within parameters that are of natural law, to some extent everyone has a control but ultimately some things are inevitable. A human being becomes an animal with the deprivation in the sense of community, law, and social structure. A man (or women) in the wild is no more than a beast.

I believe that tralala put herself in the environment she was in. Life can always be hard but at the end of the day it's you who decides and people know clearly what's right and what's not. Once she was too deep in the environment she put herself in, it was too late for her to turn back. She became who she was because of the people she hung out with and even after they got arrested, she continued to follow that path which led to her destruction.
