ashleymadison.com

Write a short op-ed style piece that expresses your opinion about the ashleymadison.com website. Should this website be allowed to advertise their services on public television? Why or why not?

  1. It's my personal opinion, that if someone is on the verge of choosing infidelity, a tv ad or print ad will not convince them to take the plunge. The feeling of cheating on your mate is already there and using media as an excuse is simply a cop-out. Ashley Madison should be allowed to advertise on tv, it's their first amendment right to do so. But, becuase of the adult content the time frame in which the advertisements run should be restricted. After all, isn't basically the same thing that as those late night commercials with the 1-900 numbers or the "adult" chat lines?

  2. there is an invisible line that divides right and wrong in every aspect of our lives. the american society has been pushing this barrier further and further away from its original spot. nowadays anything is allowed as long as you come out on top and it helps you succeed. whether its promoting infidelity like ashley madison or something similar has been accepted widely in our changing society. regulating advertisement like this should be effective. promoting people to cheat on their spouses is not something for kids to see on public tvs.

  3. Ashley Madison caters to an audience and there is an audience for everything. On the level of business venture it's a very innovative idea, however morally it's wrong; then again how many business adhere to morals and ethics? Should they be allowed to advertise, yes but with limitations. There are networks for this, and a childrens network would corrupt thoughts of faithfulness at an early age.

  4. I think Ashley Madison should be allowed to advertise just the same as any other business. There is a audience for everything, who are we to say that someone can't do something because we believe it's morally wrong. Personally I think if a person is doing their part as a spouse they won't have to worry about things like Ashley Madison.

  5. In my opinion, I completely reject the idea of this website being able to advertise its services. It promotes social misconduct in terms of adultry and that not only is morally wrong but it is behavior that proves to the world how people have become uncivilized. The statement of the company is altogether wrong because they are making a profit on other people's misconduct and people should realize that this company is just looking to make money from people who are weak. If more people could commit to each other in terms of long term relationships, these kind of websites would be a mere joke rather than a business entity.

  6. This website should not be able to advertise in public. This is because the whole concept of it is morally wrong. The creator of this website said himself that he would not like it if his wife joins it. This is very selfish thinking. Just like he wouldnt like his wife joining such a network, I'm sure most husbands wouldnt want their wives to join it either. So it is better not to give anybody the opportunity to fall into such a mess.

  7. Im a business major student, and in defense to the founder of this website, I can say, this was a smart business move. I in no way shape or form condone this website or adultery. I don't feel anything anger should be directed to the founder. Just because the option is there doesn't mean you should take advantage of it. I personally the main people at fault are those that allow themselves to be pulled into such a website where they expose there reputation and their family name. I saw an interview with the founder of this website where his life was being threaten by husbands who had been cheated on. My first reaction was why don't you direct that threat to the man who actually slept with your wife or to your wife her self. If the website wasn't there trust me there are many bars where she could have very easily hooked up with some other random guy. For the most part I think who ever gets mad at the founder of this website is just mad they found out they got cheated on.

  8. I dont think ashleymadison should be able to advertise publicly. I think they promote a wrong message and are tainting society even more. Some people may think about cheating but may feel like its wrong and with these types of advertisements, it may help pursuade them to do it. It takes away the chance of a marriage working out and ending up being happy. A couple may be going through minor problems that can be resolved but ashleymadison has the potential to destroy it. people can sometimes make the wrong decisions out of anger.

  9. I believe that ashleymadison should not be advertised in public. This is because it sends out a message to society saying that "it is okay to do this," which is not. Ashleymadison is a potential threat to nuclear families. Therefore, it shouldn't be allowed at all.

  10. Although I have to say I disagree with what ashleymadison.com stands for, I do believe it is the person's own decision to do what they please. If an adult wants to cheat on his or her spouse then that should be left up to that person to do as they please. That problem should be left to be settled amongst the couple. I do feel they have to right to advertise like any other match making site. It is the personal responsibility of the people to decide whether or not they want to cheat not the website's.
